Ktunaxa is a language isolate, meaning that it is one of a kind and unrelated to any other language in the world. Currently, it is in danger of becoming extinct, with fewer and fewer fluent elders living within the community. It’s up to us to preserve it. In October of 2023, the Language & Culture department was revitalized. Language and traditional teachings such as Ribbon Skirt making, Ribbon Shirts, drum and fan making, and Medicine Pouch making are intertwined in all gatherings we have at Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’it First Nation.
